Cissy and Hawa's Story

A Mother Restored, A Daughter Preserved

By The Balanced Life Family | Ssanga, Uganda

This is Cissy—mother to our beloved Hawa. We first crossed paths with her in 2015, when her little girl was only two years old. At that time, life had pushed Cissy to the very edges of survival. She was living on the streets, battling alcohol addiction and deep mental health struggles. With no family to lean on and no safe place to call home, every single day was a fight just to stay alive.

Providing Dignity and a Safe Haven

But God, in His infinite mercy, allowed our Balanced Life Family (BLF) to step into her story. Through the deep compassion of this community, we were able to rent her a small room—a sanctuary where she and her daughter could finally sleep without fear.

We didn't stop at shelter. BLF offered Cissy work on our farm, giving her not just an income, but dignity, routine, and a reason to rise each morning with purpose. Slowly and gently, she began the hard work of rebuilding her life. In the midst of her healing journey, Cissy entrusted her young daughter to us, and together we watched God begin to rewrite what looked like a hopeless chapter.

"God writes miracles in the lives of ordinary people."

A Generation Preserved

Today, that little girl—Hawa—is 13 years old. She is healthy, joyful, and thriving. She has grown up surrounded by the love, stability, and covering of a community that simply refused to let her story end in brokenness. Even without a father present, God Himself has been her Keeper. He has protected her, preserved her, and surrounded her with people who continuously speak life over her future.

Cissy's journey reminds us that complete restoration is possible. Hawa's vibrant life reminds us that generational preservation is real. Together, their story testifies that when compassion meets action, God writes miracles in the lives of ordinary people.
