The Late Samali Lwasa (Jajja Baby) Memorial Christmas Netball Cup
Honoring a Legacy, Transforming a Community
Some legacies are too powerful to be buried. The Late Samali Lwasa, lovingly known to everyone as Jajja Baby, was a woman whose heart burned with a deep desire to see young girls in Ssanga rise above their circumstances. Long before she passed, she planted a seed in the community that continues to blossom every single year in her honor.
A Vision Born From Love
Jajja Baby believed that sport was one of the most powerful tools to keep young girls safe, focused, and moving toward a better future. With that conviction, she founded the BLF Ssanga Netball Team to gather the young girls of Ssanga together, nurture their talent, and open doors for them to access bursaries and educational opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
The very first players on that team were her own granddaughters, Tasha Deanda and Jesca Katongole.

The Tournament: A Community Celebration
To honor her memory, Eng. Ronald Lwasa and Mr. Sebulibba Michael organized what has now become a landmark annual event: The Late Samali Lwasa Memorial Christmas Netball Cup. Held every Christmas season, this tournament brings together multiple netball teams from across the region to compete, celebrate, and grow together. The winning team walks away with a prestigious trophy and generous prizes.
But beyond the competition, this is a day when mothers, widows, single ladies, youth, and entire families gather on the same ground, united by joy and faith. The Word of God is preached, hearts are encouraged, and the spirit of Jajja Baby lives on in every serve and every cheer.
More Than a Game
The young girls who play in the BLF Ssanga Netball Team are not just athletes. They are students. Because of the bursaries that their talent unlocks, the majority of these girls are now studying in good schools across Uganda. The goal going forward is to expand the tournament across the entire Division (Gombolola), bringing even more communities together under the banner of sport, faith, and transformation.
“May the legacy of Jajja Baby, Samali Lwasa, continue to live on in every young girl who picks up a netball and dares to dream bigger. Rest in power, Mum. Well done.”
